Lake Scenes

I have spent many happy hours with my husband's family at their cottage on Lake Michigan. As my cousins like to say "Any sunset over Lake Michigan is a 10." These paintings were drawn from photographs of the Lake at all hours, as well as other locations.

Over time, I have observed that the light on the lake changes rapidly throughout the day. Sometimes there is a sharp blue light in the afternoon that is almost crystalline. Other times, the sunset may look like it will be bland, and then suddenly shift to a hot, blazing theatrical display in a moment. Last summer, we had a spectacular sunset on an evening when the waves were high and the water was warm. One of the best swims of my life, as the waves lit up crimson with the sunset. A wonderful place to be.
