I grew up outside Knoxville, Tennessee and was invited to exhibit at Southland Books in Maryville, owned by a classmate from Maryville High. My friend Christina Huntington, a painter and photographer from Memphis, took the photographs. Some of my favorite work!
Knoxville has a wonderful train yard surrounded by brick buildings from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Many of the old painted advertisements on brick survive. From the time captured in James Agee's A Death in the Family, downtown and old town have a feeling of a time before Amazon deliveries. To everyone's delight, downtown Knoxville has revived and captured some of the spirit of the forties, when Gay Street sparkled. A great place to visit.
